The Junk Strings Project was created to encourage the creation of American Folk inspired instruments designed from recycled on hand materials. The Great Depression made a sizable impact on the traditionally recognized Folk instruments that we know and love today(the diddley bow, the cigar box guitar). The idea that inspired the junk strings project was the original idea behind instruments made at that time. Affordable, portable, quality instruments made from items we already have. With the current state of today's economy suspiciously reflecting the Great Depression from the past it is important to remember that having instruments and having music should be accessible and affordable.
